Cardiovascular Conditioning

WBCT affects the function of the cardiovascular system with increases in preload measures and not afterload.

Exposure to cryogenic temperatures results in:

  • Decreased heart rate
  • Increase in stroke volume
  • Increase in stroke index
  • Induced parasympathetic modulation is increased

Systolic and diastolic blood pressure and total peripheral resistance measures do not change significantly. (Zalewski P, 2014)
